poem...

to the peddlers of jesus at my door

you've come a long way
to receive
no
answer

except silence.

let this
be
a lesson

unto you.

poem...

the journey

four wild turkeys
climbing up the hill,
crossing the damp pasture
and
disappearing into the
treeline
without
a
sound.

piles of clouds
pressing down
on top
of
this mountain.

a stream swelling
with
winter rain.

in the darkness,
ice crystals
crowding together
upon tilted blades of grass.

boot laces and
dogs breathing
warm
against
cold glass.

her face
frowning with
sweet worry.

gathering these
moments
and carefully packing
them away.

someday,

I'll
need
them.

a couple of reviews...

of A Sound To Drive Away The Coming Darkness over at a zine review site. scroll down H E R E for the full site and review. justin.barrett has a couple of books reviewed over there as well.

also, check out the review of Darkness over at the dandy lit mag nibble's website.

lastly, please to compare and contrast these two reviews (H E R E and H E R E) of Hosho's latest sunnyoutside book; I find it extremely interesting how the 'academic' in the first review just doesn't get it (and the different conclusions one can draw from the same book). I mean, not understanding how pain is essential to any human's realization of how life works, how pain can be a "good thing," how the suffering inherent in our mortal existence is a necessary component and an unavoidable part and parcel of happiness and peace is a fucking idiot. I mean, shit, has this fucker not heard the song "Heaven" by the Talking Heads? the bar HAS to close or you'll go nuts. you can't have one without the other. my recommendation? buy the motherfucking book; it's without a doubt one of Hosho's finest publications.

happy new year...

thank god that's over. now everything is gonna be Just Exactly Perfect.

while we're waiting for "obama to fix it," go read an interview with justin.barrett by the good Father Luke.

it's cold but not too cold. the sun is out. the dogs are sleeping on the floor. I can smell coffee brewing in the other room.

it could always be worse...
