ugh...

sometimes I hate the mentality of the small press almost as much as university slush pile exclusionary garbage.

not everyone is trying to get one over on you. some of us genuinely believe in art.

that is all.

why so despondent?

what precipitated this, Chris?

you know, this isn't just a small press thing. it's a life thing.

most people do not understand those who do things for the love of it; they don't understand those who are passionate about things; they don't understand the act of giving away art, beauty, love for the sake of mankind.

the same thing occurs in an infinite number of segments of our society. it's gotten to the point that even doing a good deed for another human being doesn't bring about thankfulness or appreciation, but suspicion and questions of the hidden ulterior motives.

carry on, brother. you and i and some others know the truth.

my man, it's just the same thing that drove you out. petty bullshit and ignorance expressed as a function of some folks' own failings projected onto others. I don't have time for it. and certainly don't have the patience to respond sweetly and apologetically to offensive emails from folks I thought I knew, thought were solid, thought were insightful.

but I've been wrong before dealing with small pressers, they often prove themselves to be fractals of our fearful, overly suspicious, self involved culture, and incapable of suspending their own problems in order to clearly understand another human.

whatever, really. the small press remains small, and always will, and those who refuse to rise above ignorance and misperception in order to ask questions that might actually result in answers they can understand can have it.

bah.

shit, sorry to hear the beast has gotten hold of you, too.

it gets us all in time, i suppose.

shit....i can certainly understand your frustration and annoyance. but, my empathy won't change the fact that this world is what it is.

always has been, always will be.

sorry, my man.
